Why history?

“Those who do study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it” says Tom Toro, the cartoonist of The New Yorker, paraphrasing George Santayana. And it seems that in this blog, we are doomed indeed, my fellow historiophile. Why, you ask? Well, I’ve got you covered—sort of:

Those who study history are doomed

Who’s behind this?

Just a middle aged history buff and a History & Archaeology student at the University of Athens, who plans to record his belated journey in the academic world. My intention is to post history and culture-related content, inspired by my classes and everyday life, in both posts and highly curated notes. I stand by Solon’s quote: «γηράσκειν αἰεί πολλά διδασκόμενος» ( “I grow old always learning many things”).

I grow old always learning
