Not sure why I was sent this, but I could really relate to your views on God. My own is similar to yours in that we can't define who God is, yet God pervades so much of history, not just through art and architecture but an influence in the lives of so many who lived it.

I'm exploring the question through writing, in a different way, through fiction. Best wishes to you.

Hi Suzanne, thank you for the kind words! I am really glad you could relate to this piece. It is truly fascinating how the concept of God shapes so much of human history and art, regardless of our personal certainties. Exploring that through fiction sounds like a wonderful endeavor. Best wishes for your writing!

An enjoyable read. As for if God exists, he does exist. I've been a born again Christian ✝️ since age 11. The Trinity in the Bible is made up of God the Son, God the Father, God the Holy Ghost.

I am sorry to hear that you have been on the receiving end of judgment from both sides, inside the Church and outside.  Human nature is human nature everywhere -- broken, egocentric, and capable of harming others.

People poke fun of Greeks sometimes for our spotty Church attendance, but I think the flipside of that is the fact that we sense we can always come back.  I used to attend a lot less than I do now, for reasons similar to what you shared here.  As much as other people might find it inconsistent that you still do want to come to Liturgy, I think it shows a deeper trust that there is still something of beauty and transcendence, perhaps even a Transcendent One, inviting you, calling you forward.  That Beauty and Transcendence goes far beyond any of the brokenness and baggage of the human beings in the Church.  It will be always waiting for you, ready to welcome you with open arms, like the father of the prodigal son.

Eleni, thank you for sharing your thoughts with this beautiful comment. You are so right about the feeling that we can always 'come back.' Even though I don't consider myself religious, I also see the church and the Liturgy as a refuge of reverence. To tell you the truth, I wish I attended more often.
